More mortgage brokers and estate agents are engaging their customers in green homes

Bath, 5th September, 2024. Propflo – an award winning digital platform supporting businesses to engage their customers in energy efficiency – has seen a marked uptake in independent mortgage advisors and estate agents using their platform.

With £250bn investment required to bring UK properties up to standard, and 80,000 homes needing to be retrofitted per month, it is a key priority for the country. The government has also pledged to reintroduce new minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) requiring landlords to raise their energy rating to at least a C by 2030. Previous proposals included a £10,000 cap on costs for landlords.

However, landlords and homeowners lack information and the process is currently disjointed. The Propflo platform enables a more seamless experience for homeowners and landlords to guide them through the improvement process and financing the works, whilst making it easy and profitable for businesses like mortgage advisors and letting agents.

"Propflo and the GreenVal tool in particular is a no-brainer. The technology is integrated into our website, and the feedback we have had from our clients is they love this approach in that they can self-serve and educate themselves on how to make their home greener, whilst it helps me understand more about their future plans and priorities which could impact the best mortgage choice for them.

It is well publicised that our new Labour government has energy performance improvements at the centre of their housing agenda, with a real focus on improving the performance of the private rented sector. My clients can use Propflo to not only save significant time and effort but get ahead of the anticipated rush for contractors who specialise in the sector. "

"We help agents and landlords with a number of added value products and services, with minimum energy efficiency standards being a huge upcoming challenge for our clients. The Propflo platform was the best we saw on the market by far - being simple and easy to engage with to add value to our business."

The GreenVal retrofit tool

A key part of the platform is GreenVal which businesses use to engage their customers. It enables homeowners and landlords to:
● View the short and long term benefits and costs associated with making a property more energy-efficient
● Get quotes for a wide range of home improvements, from accredited local and national suppliers
● Explore low-cost and do-it-yourself improvement opportunities, available for direct purchase
● Gain insight into the impact a property can have on personal wellbeing, by rating contributing factors such as thermal comfort, air quality, and financial stability.

"Even before the election we’ve seen that our offering was a really simple choice for small businesses like brokers and agents to provide added value to their customers and generate an extra revenue stream. Post-election, with more funding and certainty around regulations, we’ve seen this increase and smaller companies that are able to move quicker are taking the initiative."
