Introducing Eco Approach’s energy performance assessments

Helping homeowners make green and informed choices with Eco Approach

Many homeowners want to improve their home’s energy efficiency—whether to lower bills, increase property value, or reduce their carbon footprint. But navigating energy performance requirements, securing the right certifications, and identifying the best efficiency upgrades can be overwhelming.

That’s where Eco Approach comes in. As one of the UK’s largest providers of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and retrofit assessments, they help homeowners understand, improve, and future-proof their property’s energy efficiency.

Nationwide property certification

Eco Approach was founded by Tom Harrington. Starting out as an online estate agency it pivoted to nationwide property certification services. Today, with its focus on excellent customer service and quality, it’s on a mission to make homes safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient.

"Too many homeowners and landlords struggled with inconsistent service and unclear guidance. Our goal with Eco Approach was to simplify the process while ensuring homes across the UK become safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient."

Eco Approach offers a full suite of services designed to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability carrying out over 10,000 home visits per month:

  • Certification: EPCs and other essential compliance documents.
  • Installation, Repair, and Servicing: Ensuring every upgrade is executed to perfection.
  • Retrofitting Services: Bespoke solutions for improving energy performance.
  • Renewable Energy Solutions: From solar panels to air source heat pumps, they’ve got it covered.

EPCs: essential for energy efficiency

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) evaluates a property’s energy efficiency, providing a rating from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient). This rating offers insights into energy consumption and suggests cost-effective improvements. For property transactions, EPCs are essential for guiding buyers and tenants in making informed decisions.

During the assessment process, a qualified energy assessor evaluates key elements of the property, such as insulation, heating systems, windows and more. This data gets processed using government-approved software, producing a final report including the current rating as well as the potential when certain improvements are taken.

Several factors influence a property’s EPC rating, including the efficiency of insulation and heating systems as well as the types of windows, lightning and the presence of renewable energy sources such as solar panels.

EPCs offer a range of benefits, including reducing energy bills, increasing property values, and empowering tenants to select cost-efficient homes. Upcoming changes in EPC regulation will make these assessments more accurate and include new recommendations, particularly with regard to heat pumps, driving further progress towards the UK’s Net Zero targets.

Going beyond EPCs: retrofit assessments

A retrofit assessment evaluates a building’s current energy performance in much more detail, identifying tailored opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce energy waste.

The assessment process involves three key steps: evaluation, analysis, and recommendations. First, assessors inspect critical aspects of the property, such as insulation, heating and cooling systems, and overall thermal efficiency. They then analyse the data to pinpoint areas of energy loss or inefficiency, such as drafts and poor insulation. Finally, they provide a customised retrofit plan, outlining actionable upgrades.

Retrofit assessments offer a wide range of benefits. By implementing energy-efficient upgrades, homeowners can lower their energy bills, saving money in the long term. These improvements also help to reduce carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable environment. Furthermore, energy-efficient homes tend to increase in value, making them more appealing to potential buyers. Enhanced energy performance also improves indoor air quality and thermal comfort, creating healthier and more pleasant living conditions.

Retrofit assessments help in future-proofing a property while offering better living comfort. By making smart, energy-conscious upgrades, homeowners can enjoy lower energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and a more valuable home.

Propflo and Eco Approach: The Enhanced EPC experience

In collaboration with Eco Approach, Propflo offers the Enhanced EPC, a service that brings together the low cost of an EPC with some of the additional insights from a retrofit assessment. By collecting data beyond the legally required minimum, we provide insights not just into energy performance, but also into a property’s potential for net-zero compliance and its impact on resident wellbeing that can then be viewed on the GreenVal digital report.

With Eco Approach as our trusted partner, Propflo is helping UK homeowners take meaningful steps toward sustainability. By streamlining retrofit solutions and offering advanced energy certifications, we’re making it easier than ever to create energy-efficient, comfortable, and eco-friendly homes.

Propflo is only available through companies like your mortgage lender. If you are interested please contact them referencing the Propflo service.
